A Night Of Music Progression

The first BIG “Virtual” show is in the books. It turned out far better than I could have expected. If you did not tune in, then you missed out. To those who took the time and stopped in, I want to say a great big heartfelt THANK YOU!

According to the stats that I have been supplied, 258 viewers at a single time with a total unique views of 517. An average watch time of 3 hours and 7 minutes. Seeing how I played for 5 hours and 20 minutes, that is pretty damned good.

The first hour and 15 minutes to hour and 30 minutes were all requests or simply played with no set list. As I got into sets, I did use a set list but ALL music was mixed LIVE. There is NOT another DJ that could play as long as I did, mixing genres as I did.

If you tuned in and want to listen again -OR- if you did not tune in and want to listen, here is the link to the feed: https://www.mixcloud.com/jaysjams/a-night-of-music-progression-20201024-2141/

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED – KEEP READING!!!

I have been asked many (hundreds) of times about this EPIC event.  Please, read this through to the end and should you have questions, please feel free to reach out.

Date:             Saturday October 24, 2020

Time:             Begins at 6:00pm EDT (a full schedule is below)

Where:          On YOUR computer/tv in the comfort of YOUR home

Cost:              FREE – Yes – 100% FREE

FAQ #1:  How Do I Get To This Event

A little back story first.  Because of copyright and patents, Facebook LIVE, Instagram LIVE, and YouTube LIVE will NOT allow big events without major corporate backing.  And this costs money to the end user – ie YOU!  Thus, how can a Professional DJ bring an event (a global event) for ZERO money?  The website is MIXCLOUD.  I have been a part of MIXCLOUD since the inception and it has allowed me to audition for gigs that before were not possible.  And now, many wedding DJ’s and bedroom DJ’s are allowed to perform for the public and I/we flip the bill.  If you do not believe me, then just go and check it out on your own.

Go to:  www.mixcloud.com and register.  This is 100% free.  There is an ap also that is available for FREE in your ap store (but depending upon how you will tune in – this ~may~ not be recommended).  Once you have registered, search for me JAYSJAMS.  Follow my account as it is FREE!  I do not recommend that you subscribe just yet.

That’s it – It’s that simple!

I suggest that you go and get this out of the way.  I also recommend that you test it out before hand.  I have a 100% FREE test set that I have left up just to preview your system.  I did that test about 1 month ago for 20 people.  I was test audio quality and camera angles.  The day of the event, I will not be available to help you.  PLEASE!  Test it beforehand!

FAQ #2:  SCHEDULE

At 6:00pm EDT I will publish the link once I am up and braodcasting.

It will appear on my personal FB page; the event FB page and on my Website.

HOWEVER, if you have registered on MIXCLOUD and if you are following me, simply login and click on my logo.  You will be taken directly to the event.

AN APPROXIMATE TIME SCHEDULE ALONG WITH A MUSIC SET PREVIEW

6:00PM         Anything & Everything

Those active in the Chatroom can make requests.  If there is any Country, Motown, or R&B to be played, this is when it will get played.

7:15PM         Music that is 100% identifiable, remixed and remade!

If you are a Beatles fan, you will NOT want to miss my Beatles dance medley!

7:45PM         Disco

Like to dance?  I can guarantee you will be moving.

“A Taste of Honey”, “KC & the Sunshine Band’, and “Lipps Inc” are solid bets.

8:30PM         1980’s Dance Alternative

The clubs that I performed during this time were distinctively different.  They were either Club Alternative based or FUNK based.  This set will feature artists such as: “Yaz”, “INxS”, and “The Escape Club”.

9:15PM         1980’s FUNK

This is probably my favorite music to mix.  I have blown the dust off a few of these remixes just for this epic event.  If you haven’t heard “Prince”, Run DMC”, or “The Beastie Boys” lately, you will.

10:00PM       1990’s

Ah those pre-Y2K years and the classic ‘90’s “Club” music.  “Vanilla Ice’, “The Backstreet Boys”, and “House of Pain” are sure to get you “Jumping Around”!

10:45PM       2000 to today

Yes.  I have to do it.  This was a transitional time for music and I have chose a few dance tunes that will transcend with time.  “Usher”, “Justin Timberlake”, and “Maroon-5” are artist that you will hear.

11:30PM       EDM

While 80’s Funk is my favorite to mix, the EDM music from 2000-today is by far and away my favorite to listen to.  I have created my own versions to a few selections and I will feature those.  “Avicii”, “Martin Garrix”, and “Armin Van Buuren” are sure to keep you moving.  Not sure what “EDM” really is, visit Sirius/XM channel 51 or 52 for a preview.

FAQ #3         Where Are You Located/Where Is This Taking Place

I have a studio set up here at my home in the 28117.  It is called “Birdhouse” because my nickname has always been JayBird.  Sorry visitors are not welcome that night as I will be busy.

FAQ #4         Is It Really FREE!

Yes.  Absolutely.  100%

FAQ #5         What If I need Help or Have Questions

This is why I recommend testing things out before the 24th.  I can help you before then.  You can reach me easily via e-mail at:  jay@jaysjams.com.  Depending upon where you are reading this, you can ask here as I will monitor this.  Here is a key; If you stream from a phone or a tablet to a Bluetooth speaker, that is just audio, no video.  I will have 4, maybe 5 cameras up that night.  The easiest for the best picture, is to get your laptop/desk top/or tablet to a HDMI cable to your TV and then through to your home audio.  The feed will come in at 1080HD with an audio feed of 256.

I hope to see you on the 24th – virtually!

Always Have Fun!

~Jay~

October 24, 2020

HELLO!

I have been asked MANY times about the following:

  • When is the event and what time?
  • How do I see it?
  • How do I register?
  • What kinds or type of music will you be playing?

So here we go!

DATE AND TIME

The event is on Saturday October 24, 2020 from 6:00pm EDT until at least 11:00pm EDT.

HOW TO SEE IT – VIEW IT – AND PARTICIPATE

The link will be posted on my website (www.jaysjams.com) as well as on Facebook.  I will post it on my wall and I will post it on the event section.  You will be able to click the link and go directly to the event.  You will be able to view the event and listen.

However, if you want to participate, you will need to go to:

www.mixlab.com

At mixlab, register to become a member.  It is 100% FREE!

Then search for me (jaysjams) and follow me.

Following is 100% FREE – I would recommend just following for now.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC

Starting at 6:00pm EDT, I will play anything.  And I do mean anything.

If you are a Country buff, this is your best bet to hear a country tune or two.  I will be taking requests.  To request a song, you will need to be active in the chat room.  Hence, you will need to register and follow me.

If you are a Motown/R&B fan, same applies.

Between 8:00pm and 8;30pm (EDT), the first official “set” will be disco.  I will do my best from here on the watch the chat room, but now I will be in my element.

I will move into the 80’s with Club music, Funk, and of course the “Midnight Funk Association”.

Up into the 90’s we go and the night will progress accordingly.

The last official “set” will feature music from today.  If you need some insight into this, Sirius/XM channel 51 and 52 will provide a preview.

If the room is packed (which it will be), I will keep playing until my neighbors complain!

PLEASE!!!  If you have questions, just ask me.

We are less than 2 weeks out!

“Ain’t No Party Like A Jay’s Jams Party”

Have Fun!

~Jay~

Jay’s Jams LIVE At The Birdhouse!

HERE IS THE EVENT THAT YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!

  • Do you like great music?
  • Do you like to dance?
  • Would like to have a great time and spend zero money?

How would you like to accomplish the above from the comfort of your own home?

I have always been on the cutting edge when it comes to my DJ and Entertainment business.  I am proud to announce the launch of my “Virtual Parties”!  It does not matter where you live, travel is not required, all you need is an internet feed and a Professional-DJ is yours!

And to get things started, I am doing a complete live show on October 24th, 2020.

The party will start at 6:00pm EDT.  The beginning of the show will feature songs that you know from cruisin’ around with music up with the windows down!  As the night progresses, so will the music.  We will move from R&B to Disco to 80’s Dance Music, to 80’s Funk, to the 90’s, the 00’s, and then end the night with dance music from today.

The Milan Alumni Party was canceled this year and here is the PERFECT opportunity for you to host a party at your home.  Whether it is classmates or friends, have your own party in the comfort of your own home.

Maybe you know me from a wedding, from a party, a sporting event or running sound for a band.  Please – feel free to host your own party!

Now, here is what you need to do before the party to be prepared.

You need to go to:  Mixcloud.Com (I would recommend NOT using the ap)

Register to become a member – it is 100% free!

Once you are signed up, go and look for my page:  Jay’s Jams

Now, all you have to do is follow me – do not subscribe.

You are doing this so on the night of the party, you will be allowed to comment in the chat room.  If you just come to Mixcloud and enjoy the party without logging in, you will not be allowed in the chat room.

***THE NIGHT OF THE PARTY, I WILL PUBLISH THE LINK ON THIS PAGE.  I WILL NEED EVERYONE TO SHARE THE LINK ON THAT NIGHT!!!***

The night of the party, you will want to insure you are listening in HD.  The test sets that I have done, the sound is broadcast in HD Stereo at 256Kpbs.

This event is open to everyone and anyone.  I need all of you to share this event and to invite all of your friends.  The goal is to have over 1000 people (yes 1000) on at any one given time.  The only way this happens is if EVERYONE shares and invites.

I would encourage you to get signed up sooner than later.  The reason for this is because on that night, I will be way too busy to field technical questions.  Plus, it would be horrible if you missed out.  The sign-up process takes less than 2 minutes.  And you never know when I am going to hop on Mixcloud and just perform randomly!

“There Ain’t No Party Like A Jay’s Jams Party!”

Have Fun!

Quick Update – 10/20/2019

Happy Sunday Morning!                                                                                                    October 20, 2019

If you are anything like me, you use Sundays as a day to refuel your batteries.  I work 6 days per week at my day job and as soon as things get moving (again) with JAY’S JAMS, I will just go back to full-time sound management, emceeing, and of course my forte` DJ’ing.

I did the Alumni Party in my hometown for several reasons.

  • Toby Carver and Bob Cooper that were guys that I looked up to in school
  • I wanted to be a part of a GREAT event
  • I wanted the sound/music/DJ side to be done right
  • I wanted to give back to my hometown
  • AND MOST OF ALL – I wanted everyone to see the difference between your basic wedding dj and a Professional DJ

If you are reading this and you have the need for a Professional DJ, sound management, or an emcee, please drop me a line.  We will discuss your event and I will help you to plan accordingly.  I see all kinds of DJ’s with “packages”.  Do you really want your event (or wedding reception) to fit inside someone else’s box?  What their perception of YOUR event should be?  I do not believe in packages whatsoever.  I work WITH the group to provide what YOU need/want.  That is what 39 YEARS of experience and 1263 weddings will do for you.

Lastly, last week’s update I copied and pasted the link in all the usual spots.  The link was clicked on 154 times – NOT TOO BAD!  But one of the message boards got in touch with me.  The Admin said that I was advertising for my business.  I asked this person had he even clicked on the link and read the article.  Of course, he did not and there end lies the issue.  If you took the time to read last week’s update-THANK YOU and you can see it was an event recap from my perspective.

So please, SHARE this link or post so everyone can read.  Please!

And if you want to know which board it was, drop me a line and I will share it with you.  I will refrain from posting on that Gestapo board again.

Until Next Time…….

Thanks,

~Jay~

The Milan Tailgate and After Party!!!

Hello to everyone!  This is the type of blog entry that I typically do not like to do. However, given the magnitude of the event, as well as the success of the event, I will expand upon what I did.

Since October 4th, 2019 I have been asked FAR too many times to count:

-What kind of list did you use?

-How did you know what to play?

-What songs did you play?

What was October 4th, 2019?  Was it “just” another JAY’S JAMS  Party?  The answer quite simply is no.  It was THE Biggest Party in MilanBAR NONE

The overall success of the party was a conglomeration of people coming together.  Toby Carver and Bob Cooper deserve just as much of the credit as I do.  I cannot accept that I had anything more to do with the party.  And to close with this, the party’s success has been overwhelmingly documented and the entire town is already looking forward to the next installment.

The rest of this post has solely with what I did to prepare.

I spoke to Bob Cooper back in February.  Bob and Toby had done the event for 4 years and they were looking to take it to the next level.  And that is where I came in.

I have done this Professionally (key word – Professionally) since December of 1980.  Even my early gigs were successful as if you know anything about me, failure is not an option.  Having done 1257 weddings myself, I know that preparation is key.  Once you get to an event you, as a Professional, you should have done so much preparation that the night should go off seamlessly.

So how do I prepare and how much time do I put in?  As I have documented previously, I put in at the very least 40 hours before a wedding.  This does not include the wedding and/or the reception, this is ALL before we get to the big day.  My hometown of Milan has NEVER had a gathering or party such as this one and it was my goal to leave the town-a-talkin’!

Once the Facebook page was up (next year it will expand to a website as well for those who are not on Facebook), I could see daily who was or wasn’t coming.  In all seriousness, I looked at this several times per day.  In the beginning, I updated the page every 2-3 weeks just to keep the event in people’s minds.  As we hit August 1st (2 months out) I updated weekly.  The updates were long and were cumbersome to some people, but it had to be done.  1 month out the frequency was turned up and 1 week out the updates became daily.

The last month alone, I fielded over 1100 texts, calls, Facebook messages, posts, and e-mails.  I made sure to answer each and every one of them just as though it was “me” that was asking the question and how “I” would want to be handled.  This event had grown into a monster and yet it needed to be handled delicately because remember, this was the first “big” one.

Logistically, I was thinking how on earth was I going to get my BIG JBL rig there.  I knew that I was going to have to bring the “Big Rig” and I don’t mean an 18-Wheeler!  But to get that set up from 28117 to 48160 I just might need an 18-Wheeler!  Back to the drawing board I went.

When I think back to the days of my brother Scott and I doing mobile DJ events, the amount of gear that we transported was ridiculous.  Hell, the many clubs that I have performed at, I would bring 3-4 crates of my own vinyl to shows.  A new company to the USA is Turbosound.  Turbosound is from the UK and they have been around for ages.  Many companies are gravitating towards the “Mini Line Array” systems and Turbosound is one of them.  The footprint of the set up in small, but many of my professional sound engineering counterparts, simply RAVE about these things.  I pulled the trigger and purchased a complete system to bring to this party (Now this is a funny story within itself – I will leave that out for now).

My amazing wife Kim needed to come to Michigan in September.  Yes, she could have flown, but this was a chance for me to see the venue once again.  It had been 13 years since I had played at the Legion, and I was still nervous about how much rig I had decided to bring.  Thus, Kim and I drove from 28117 to 48463.  I met Toby and Bob at the American Legion for a mini round table discussion about how everything else was shaping up.  But before our meeting, I measured the room, top to bottom, front to back, and I brought my sound analyzing equipment.

I was surprised.  My “little” system was going to do BIG things in that room.  Because I understand sound (as the majority of DJ’s do not), I was also going to bring 2 subwoofers as well.  I was very happy with the sound 1 month out.

One month out we had 143 people on the Facebook page as coming.  I knew this number was actually over 200 as the number of folks who had contacted me directly that were not on Facebook, was extensive.  The people that had responded were between the Class of 1977 and the Class of 2001.  That alone is a 24 years span.  Music was NOT going to be easy.

As the event got closer, there were a few early 70’s classes that had shown interest as well as the Class of 2014 contacted me as they ~may~ have their 5 years reunion at the Tailgate & After Party.  Now I had to bridge 40+ years.  Daily (and I do mean daily) I was drawing on my experience and thinking of songs that I had used in the past.

I do not use a play list, I refuse as they simply do not work.  If you are not professional enough to read the crowd and play to the crowd, then you are a problem.  Back in 1985 I began to use a “Do Not Play List”.  I gave this to whomever was hiring me, and this would help me MORE than a play list. My do not play list for this event was taking shape as dozens of people were contacting me about language and edited content.  I would oblige as much as I could early on, but as the lights go down and the music comes up, all bets are off.  Incidentally, the last song of the night was a HIT!  What was it you ask?  Buckcherry’s “Crazy Bitch”.

So how did I prepare:

  • 8 months of time
  • A brand-new sound system
  • Hundreds of updates on the Facebook page
  • An extra trip to Michigan
  • I stopped counting at 360 HOURS of documented prep time
  • E-mails; Calls; and messages that cannot be measured

AND IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!!!

As I close, and remember this is from my perspective, I would like to Thank:

  • Bob Cooper – you have always been an inspiration to me.  It was a pleasure.
  • Toby Carver – you took a leap when you allowed me in. Thank You IMMENSELY!
  • Rose Sanch – For standing by Toby and for ALL of your hard work
  • The Carver Family – your help the day of was out of this world!
  • And most of all – to my wife Kim! I know that this DJ thing ain’t your bag and in your own way, you support me.  Without you, this epic event could not have happened!

To those who have asked about the music – the complete list is below.  My software time stamps, key stamps, and BPM stamps.  Thus, I had to clean it up a tad and then convert it into a .wpd format.  But below you can see it.

What does next year bring? That is a GREAT question. We had +/-400 people in attendance this year.  I am not sure how much “bigger” it can be as it pertains to sheer numbers, but it can be “better”.  As soon as a date can be set for next year’s Homecoming, a date will be announced.  We will again have a Facebook page but I will add a Website too.  LOTS and LOTS more to think about as this one is STILL being talked about.

Until Then…….

Thanks,

~Jay~

What Has Jay Been Doing…….

Hello JAY’S JAMS followers.

Yep, it has been a minute since I posted last.  Not because I have not wanted to, but because I have been busy.  From a COACHELLA audition, 70’s-80’s-90’s parties, weddings, emceeing and running sound for bands, I stay busy.  I will try to get here more often.

Sit back, grab a drink, and read on!

I want friends to know that I entertain ~everywhere~.  And I cannot stress that enough, everywhere.  Yes, I relocated out of Michigan, but do not let that detour you from reaching out.  I watch on social media classmate’s children getting married, friends getting married, groups that I have worked for, and I do not get the courtesy of a telephone call or e-mail.  As of this post, I have 1263 weddings under my belt.  The experience that I bring and the value that I add, is unapparelled.  You don’t know until you ask – if you are in need of an entertainer, drop me a line.

I want to try and educate folks what really goes into an event.

Let’s use a wedding as an example.  I know from my vast experience that preparing is the key to success.  When I am doing a wedding, there is never down time.  I have the capability ensuring that there is music, all the time.  It becomes uncomfortable when the entertainer is not prepared and there is silence.  Or, maybe there is a game being played and there is no music under that.  Unprofessional.  Next, how about the mispronunciation of names or the names are announced out of sequence.  Entertainers often will raise the pitch of their voice, speak loudly (even on their microphone), or take a long pause, this is all because they are simply not prepared.

This is the difference between a Professional Entertainer and a pseudo “DJ”.  Every wedding that I do, I have spent a minimum (yes minimum) of 40 hours.  The event comes off as if the entire night was rehearsed.  When in fact, through our meetings, discussions and planning, it has been.

Now let’s expand upon the time.

Most receptions with dinner are 5 hours.  My “typical” fee (range) for a 5-hour reception is 1500.00 to 2500.00.  I was asked last week “Jay, why do you charge so much”?  This is what happens when a consumer has not been educated and does not see value and does not see the big picture.

Let’s use 2000.00 as the median value.

To do this 5-hour reception it will take me:

1 hour to load

2.5 hours to set up

5 hours for the event

1 hour to tear down

0.5 hours to unload

——————————-

10.00 hours total on that day

40 hours (minimum) to prepare before the big day

——————————-

50.0 hours for 1 reception

2000.00 / 50.0 hours = 40.00/hour

This is a LLC and is insured.  I pay about +/-20% and thus I would clear 32.00 hour.

Not including my laptop and hard drives, I bring about 20,000.00-30,000.00 worth of rig to every gig.

***NOW REMEMBER – the average consumer only sees that 5 hours on that day.  And now (if you have read this), you know and understand the difference.

I won’t wait so long to come back.  Visit my site (www.jaysjams.com) to learn more and you can always e-mail me too at jay@jaysjams.com

A Different Kind Of Post!

Hello Everyone – a little different type of blog entry here today.  But I do hope all is well.

I am doing something a little different as I am frustrated with family, friends, classmates, and acquaintances because of my DJ business.  I stay busy, don’t get me wrong, but it frustrates me to no end to watch children getting married and I am not even worthy of a telephone call or e-mail?  I have put up music for folks to listen to and I am even good enough for the music festival COACHELLA.  And with 1252 weddings under my belt, I do feel as though a call or e-mail is not too much to ask.

Anyways…….Whatever…….

As most of you know, I did race professionally for over two decades.  When you get to the highest level of racing, everything is custom.  There are no “shelf parts” that go fast and if you want to be Ricky Bobby, 100% custom and engineer on the fly is the only way to go.

Why do I say that?  Follow along.

I own a 2013 Genesis R-Spec (more this at the conclusion) and on February 26, 2019 someone decided to help themselves to two of my wheels and tires.  So, this is where this story begins.

On February 25, 2019 I took a customer’s car home because we had performed some work on it and the readiness codes needed to be reset before the car would pass the North Carolina State Inspection.  It was the first time that I had ever done this for the store (and it will be the last) but I was excited to do this.  I left at 5:45pm and I retuned back at 7:20am to this:

Whomever did that needs to rot in hell, but that is an entirely different story.  One wheel, read that again, one wheel at MY COST through the dealership is 485.00.  I kind of need two, so that is 970.00 just for two wheels.  Now two Continental run flats at 285.00 each (570.00), two new TPMS sensors (Hyundai specific), mount, balance, alignment, and center caps (with taxes and fees) and I was pushing 2000.00!

Does anyone just have 2000.00 laying around that they can throw at wheels and tires because of a fucking thief?  I can answer that, no I do not.  So now it was time to evaluate.

[Enter Race Car Mode]

For my car enthusiasts, the stock Genesis R-Spec wheel measures 19” X 8” with an offset of 39mm.  The stock tire is a 235/45-R19.  While the stock R-Spec stuff is nice, why not make the car look better, perform better, and ride better?

I am pretty sure that I visited every wheel and tire site that the internet has to offer.  I compared stock stuff from every RWD car I could think of and I began to formulate a plan.  I found that the stock Mustang GT Performance Package wheels were close to a stock R-Spec wheel.  Which stands to reason and again I will elaborate on that at the end.

Last Saturday March 2nd I went up to work and with the help of one of the technicians (Hunter), my car went up on the lift and we began to measure clearances.  The spindle in the front was going to be tight and the R-Spec has gigantic brakes on it but that was not going to be an issue as the GT Perf Pkg comes with big Brembo brakes.  On the rear I cannot possibly think of a reason that a 8” wheel was used.  There was so much room.

The planning was done and now it was time to make it happen.

I spoke with my son Lucas a few times, my lifelong friend in Michigan Exsell and anyone at work that could stand me anymore as I was beating a dead horse.  Matte Black?  Chrome?  Silver?  Gunmetal?  Finally, after too much input I decided on the gunmetal.

The very first set of wheels that I purchased WAY back in the day was for my 1985 Z-28 and I purchased American Racing wheels.  Coincidentally, the wheels that I had my eye on were also American Racing so destiny had pointed me in a positive direction.

I decided on American Racing AR-920 Blockhead wheels in gunmetal or as AR called them, Platinum.  I had chosen to run a 19” X 9” on the front and a 19” X 10” on the rear.  From the stock 235/45-19 tires I would stagger them and use a 245/40-19 in the front and a 275/35-19 in the rear.  The Continental tires are not very aggressive, and they do no match the car at all.  Thus, I was going more sport oriented and I decided on the Hankook Evo^2.

Wheel and tire pictures as they arrived on Thursday March 7.

Oh dear Lord, all throughout the shop I was an idiot and they were never going to fit.  HaHaHa, I love a challenge – I don’t lose.

The ridicule got even louder as the install day got closer.  Wheel trial fit the front and it fit like a glove.  The rear trial fit (remember now, a full 2” wider) did get close in the front at the beginning of the wheel tub.  Behind the tub was 2 “L” shape brackets that secure emissions lines and a brake line.  A simple “nudge” on the tub with a 5# sledge pushed the brackets away but still in place.  This on-site engineering maneuver gave me another 2” of clearance and literally a 11” or maybe a 12” wheel would fit under this thing.

Trial fit rear pictures.

Now it was time to get the wheels and tires mounted and get them installed!

Some install pictures

Do not forget the alignment!  I wish every customer of mine (public or sales) understood the importance of an alignment.

First pictures outside on the ground, ready to go back home!

And the R-Spec back where she belongs!

Before I conclude I would like to thank a few people.

  • My wife Kim, she has put up with a lot of bad attitude from me since this happened. I know, I know, I can be tough, sorry my love!
  • My son Lucas for being on the same page and help push me into a good direction.
  • My lifelong great friend back in Michigan Exsell Smith. We have known one another forever and having someone to talk to is a blessing.  Thank You Doc!
  • Hunter for helping out with the fitment, mounting, balancing, and alignment.
  • Rodney and Curtis at work for dealing with the “Tasmanian Devil” during this ordeal.  I love you guys!
  • Mike, our parts manager, see I’m not an asshole! LOL
  • The owner at LKN HYN Cam Stewart for your help and assistance.
  • And to my “boss”, Kurt, captain what would I do without you. THANK YOU!

To the car folks who hear “Hyundai” and then roll their eyes.  Have you driven a new Sonata or the new Santa Fe?  I bet not.  Then, you enter into the Genesis realm.  The Genesis is such a nice car it is now a brand and NOT a model.  The R-Spec was only made in 2012, 2013, and 2014.  How many of you have seen a R-Spec little lone drove one?  The engine company who built this turd is called TAU and they are in Korea.  But Hyundai wanted to buy 5.0’s from Ford and Ford said no.  Thus, Hyundai hired a small team of engineers from Ford and the R-Spec was born.  The newer 5.0 in the G80 and G90 are NOT the same.  If you look at this engine, it is a replica of the 2016-2017 Coyote.  It is advertised at 429hp and 11:1 compression but again, behind closed doors, this is really a 12:1 engine and I will line up next to anything without a power adder on the street with a radial.

A few more things are headed to the old girl.  Stay tuned and I will post updates.

Back to DJ’ing…….

I AM BACK!

Hello and Happy Sunday!

Yep – it has been awhile, I fully understand that.  But, with the holidays, holiday parties, work (my 9-5 job), birthdays, and gigging, it is what it is.

Specifically we will talk about Coachella.

It started back in November.  Mutually we looked for one another and a kinship was established.  Right from the get go I was told to be original and that original music was desired.  I have done a lot in my career, but write music is not one of them.  Through discussions it was established that I should be original and was encouraged to put some unique/original music together.  I was invited to California for an audition and at stake was a small side stage spot.

I am pretty superstitious and I had not told anyone what was going on.  I made a post on Facebook and the post instantly blew up!  But…….Yep…….That phone call.  The call was pretty simple asking how much original music did I have.  Being honest, I told them none.  I was asked not to come and that I would earn credibility if I did not come.  I was crushed!  After some discussion and because of the awesome mix-tape that I submitted, I was granted a video audition.

I told them that I would knock their socks off.

I have completed the audition and I am waiting to hear the outcome.  I was told by several members that my skills are second to none and comparable to most.  When they realized what equipment I was using, all I heard was gasps.

Attached is the MP3 of the audition and I have video too.  The issue with the video is the audio side.  I am looking for someone to marry the two and the interim, I am not putting the video up.

The audio is just over 36 minutes and it is entertaining.  It took 90 tracks to make and doing it live was a lot of work!  Its not ~perfect~ but hey its entertaining.

Enjoy!

Jay

Attention Followers!

Hello Everyone!  Good Day to you.

The responses from the old vintage mixes that I have put up have been nothing short of amazing.  Even some of the “new” DJ’s who could never mix with vinyl have contacted me and remarked about how good and tight the mixes were.

This got me thinking.  Why not put something together for everyone?  Make this a request list, leave it up for a couple weeks, lay the tracks out, and put up a mix for the people!

So, starting today (10-21-2018) e-mail me at:  jay@jaysjams.com 2 or 3 songs that you’d like.  I will compile a list and see what I/we can do!

Thanks!
